At Magazzino del Sale number 3 (Dorsoduro 264), the Armenia (Republic of) National Pavilion is part of the 2024 Venice Art Biennale. The installation is captivating, and it's best visited in silence so you can take in all its nuances. Music, images, and writing bring an ancient tradition to mind, one that deserves far more than the emotion the installation stirs up. A reminder not to forget, and perhaps a first step toward understanding.

We came across this by chance while walking past and noticed it was open 24/7. It's a small, quirky modern art gallery, very original. You might love it or hate it, but it's free and takes just 15 minutes if you're nearby.

Today the complex hosts exhibitions by local artists and cultural events. It was rebuilt in the early 20th century, but originally this huge warehouse site was built at a strategic spot in the city in the 15th century, beside the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. It held nine Magazzini del Sale stores, where salt, the lagoon city's main economic product, was kept.
