The best part was the location: a short walk to the Grand Canal, Rialto Bridge, and Rialto Market, with a good coffee and breakfast shop across the street. But I booked this apartment for the last two days of a 32 day backpacking trip with four women because the listing promised a pampering stay. It described a welcome kit with toiletries, Prosecco, and fluffy bathrobes, and showed a Grand Canal view with a vaporetto stop in front, restaurants, and boutiques. None of the welcome items were there, and the view was of neighboring windows and the street. The apartment is not on the Grand Canal. I noticed the bathrobe photo had been removed, while the welcome kit and Prosecco photo and descriptions were still there. Another review had already mentioned missing Prosecco. I found a handwritten note from Alberto to the maid asking her to add a bottle during cleaning. When I contacted Alberto, he acted as if he didn't know what I meant. I sent him photos of his own listing; he said it was very weird and that he'd taken it down two years ago, even though there was a more recent complaint about the same issue. I felt misled, and was disappointed I couldn't give my group the treat I'd promised. The washing machine and baggage storage do exist, but they're in a ground floor utility room open to anyone in the building, not private or inside the apartment. There was black mold in the shower, and the water drained so poorly that we had to shower quickly to stop it spilling out. We also had to stand in cold water while waiting for it to heat up. In all our 32 days of travel, this was the only place that charged a cleaning fee and asked us to take out the trash. That requirement wasn't in the listing, and meant carrying rubbish down uneven stairs and along two streets to the fisherman's pier. I'll post pictures from the listing and shower. I hope Alberto improves the shower sanitizing, provides the things promised, and updates the listing to mention trash removal. Honesty is always the best policy.
We had an easy check-in and a kind, responsive host. The apartment on the second floor was roomy and very cosy, and the location was perfect. We might stay again, depending on the price.
The location was great, but the apartment felt cold and damp inside, even though it was warm outdoors during our two-night stay. It gets no sunlight and is very dark. The furniture is old and worn, and the beds had mattresses that were far too soft for us. Black tiles and a black sink made the bathroom gloomy too, so we needed the lights on all day.
Alberto gave impeccably clear directions for getting to the property and answering questions, and the place was clean and really nice. It has an old Venice feel with modern conveniences: a smart TV, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, stovetop, and keyless building entry. The area felt safe, with plenty of nice shops and places to eat just 1-3 minutes away, and they didn't charge tourist surge prices. Whether you've searched for 5 minutes or 5 hours, stop and book this place RIGHT NOW. 1 million stars for Alberto!
Well equipped for our stay, with local cafes, bars, and the vaporetto nearby. Amazing apartment in a great spot for everything.
