Asahikawa Toyo Hotel

The worn-out chair in the room, with visibly torn upholstery, made me question the hotel’s standards right away. The bedside table also looked tired, and its old-fashioned controls felt more like a relic than a modern convenience. This place seems severely neglected and very old, as if it hasn’t had proper maintenance or renovation in decades. Saying that many things were broken would be an understatement. The bathroom was especially concerning. The bathtub and sink were dated and showed heavy wear, with what looked like mold or grime around the sealant. The area that should have been pristine didn’t feel clean, and the shower curtain looked old and stained. The lack of upkeep made the stay feel very uncomfortable and unhygienic. I wouldn’t expect this even from a budget hotel in Japan, where hotels are typically known for cleanliness and efficiency. This was one of my worst hotel experiences in Japan, and I regret staying at Toyo Hotel. Save your money and peace of mind. There are much better options. This hotel needs a complete overhaul, and I’d avoid it until then.

I stayed at Toyo hotel for one night in December, during winter. By day, the street view was covered in snow. Traveled to Suffolk land.

The rooms were okay and the service was standard, but construction noise was ridiculously loud. Snow plows or other work started around 9:30 PM and carried on until about 4 AM, with loud scraping and backup beeping even though there was no traffic. It was right in front of and beside the hotel, so the noise was in your face all night. It was really annoying. I kept wondering what they were even doing all night. The Wi-Fi could also suddenly drop to almost no bandwidth, around 0.1MBPS download speed. There were also a lot of very loud Chinese tourists on our floor the whole time. If you’re a light sleeper or need reliable internet, stay somewhere else. The rooms and service were otherwise decent.

The location is fair, but the hotel is very old and seems not to have been renovated for a long time. Parking costs 800 yen per night, and the lot is a block away.
