Sundance Resort Tateshina

It's a cozy resort at the foot of Mount Tateshina, with very friendly, helpful staff. They don't speak English, but we managed to communicate with Google Translate. Because it's remote, bringing your own car is a good idea. The nearest bus stop is a 15-minute walk away, and there are only two scheduled trips from there, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The peaceful setting, comfortable beds, and relaxing evening baths made this a lovely stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the breakfast and salad buffet too. We'd definitely come back. Thank you!

It was a quiet, comfortable place to stay, and the staff treated me really well. The room was clean, and even with a fan heater it stayed warm in the coldest winter weather. The big public bath was spacious, and each of the three times I went, I had it to myself. I later learned the hotel is members-only, though nonmembers can stay too. The food wasn't anything special, but the soba was delicious and the portions were generous. It doesn't have the fancy meals, decor, or huge range of entertainment you might find at other resort hotels, but I'd recommend it if you want a quiet stay and aren't expecting too much. I'm not into flashy or noisy places, so I was very happy and would love to return. For entertainment, there was a convenience store, table tennis, billiards, tennis courts, and a playground for children. You could also rent a PlayStation or Switch.
