This was a peaceful place to stay, and the hosts communicated well whenever we needed them. We were there over Golden Week weekend, and the nearby cafes and shrine were quieter than the ones around the lake, which we really appreciated. The lake was an easy 17-minute walk away. Our group of four adults had plenty of room in the charming, older house: upstairs are three bedrooms, two with single Western-style beds, and futons on tatami for the other sleeping spaces. There’s another bedroom downstairs, along with a living room and kitchen-dining area. The upstairs balcony has a wonderful view of Fuji.

The owners are friendly and the location is good, which is why I wish I could recommend it more. But the house felt empty, dull, and cold, as if it had been vacant for 50 years before someone put in a few beds, tables, and chairs to rent out. Apart from the Japanese tatami mats and paper window screens, the interior is ugly, dated, cheap-looking, and worn. Some of the electrical installations also seem directly dangerous for children. We didn’t enjoy staying here.

A nice place to stay with the family.

The host sends useful information promptly, and there’s parking right in front of the house. It’s in a great neighborhood for a stroll or a jog. The renovated traditional home keeps its Japanese-style feel while adding modern conveniences. The rooms are spacious, with kitchen and tableware provided for cooking.
