The bedrooms were a good size and the food was nice, and we enjoyed wearing traditional Yukata around the hotel as part of our tour group. You can book a private onsen for 45 minutes, which was pleasant and cost just over 3000 yen. On arrival, shoes have to come off, and the shared slippers seem to be one size. Buying drinks at reception turned into a ridiculous dispute at the restaurant. Staff tried to charge us a bring-your-own fee that was more than the drinks themselves because we hadn’t ordered them through the restaurant staff. One person was rude and nearly aggressive, insisting we hadn’t bought the drinks at the hotel, even though the staff member we paid was standing at reception. It’s a decent enough hotel, but there are lots of rules, and that one staff member really let it down. We were okay with the stay, but I’d look around at other hotels in the area before deciding.

We were comfortable during our one night here. The room was spacious, and it was nice to have a bathtub. There’s also a private onsen for an extra charge. The grounds are pleasant for a short stroll, and breakfast had a good mix of Japanese dishes and Western food. There are no lifts, so anyone using a wheelchair or having trouble walking should ask for a ground-floor room.

There were lots of little dishes to sample at dinner, including vegetable tempura, wagyu, tofu, and raw fish. It was a very traditional meal, which I enjoyed trying, though I can see it not being to everyone’s taste. Our room was quite large, with two double beds and a good bathroom, and the hotel offered Kimono in the rooms. The Onsen was clean, and when I went, no other guests were using it. Others in our group said they had the same experience. Some chose private baths for privacy or because of their tattoos.

Getting to the hotel was awkward. I couldn’t find an email address to arrange a pickup, so we ended up walking. Dinner was all right, and the room was spacious. The staff were friendly and worked around the language gap really well with a translator gadget. The rules felt a bit rigid. On checkout day, the only transfer to Gora station was between 9 and 10 AM. We wanted to enjoy the day a little longer, but they couldn’t take us even 30 minutes later.

The bed was comfortable enough, but the location is inconvenient. We got no reply to our shuttle request, so book well ahead. They only take a few people every half hour, and service runs until 10am. A private bath costs an extra 3,300 Yen. They also won’t keep your bags after checkout, which left us walking around Gora with our suitcases on departure day.
