The Royal Park Hotel Hiroshima RiverSide

The riverside view was lovely, and being near Hiroshima Station was convenient. The room was compact, but clean enough and well stocked. Service was the real highlight. Everyone was great, from housekeeping to the front desk, and Ms. Nagata was especially kind and helpful. I’d like to thank her.

The river view gave the stay a cosy feel, and the staff were friendly and relaxed. Breakfast was decent with plenty of choices, though fruit was limited and I would have liked decaf coffee. It got crowded if we came down late. The standard room was comfortable, with good beds and pillows, but small. Finding floor space to open a large suitcase was difficult, something I’ve encountered at hotels across Japan, even pricier ones. We’ve stayed at Royal Park hotels in Tokyo many times and also at the Osaka one on this trip, so I had a point of comparison. On our last night the Wi-Fi was very poor throughout the hotel. Staff seemed unsure what to do and walked around different floors with me checking the connection, without success. They didn’t contact tech support or try rebooting the router. Having lived in Japan for four years, I’m used to some things, but this was disappointing for the Royal Park standard. I’d give it four stars rather than three, though in practice it felt closer to three and a half.

The rooms were clean and nicely equipped, but quite cramped. Even with small suitcases and travelling light, we found it hard to open them in the room. The hotel itself is pleasant and very well placed, near the station and Hiroshima’s main sights.

The staff were really helpful, and the room was quiet, clean, and just right for what I needed. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk from the main station. I had a lovely stay and would gladly come back.
