The owner has a distinctive sense of taste, and thoughtful omotenashi shows up in lots of little details. It’s the kind of place you almost want to keep to yourself.

The nearby restaurant hours are something to plan around, especially for breakfast. We came from far away and still had a comfortable, relaxing stay, and I’m glad we chose this inn. The town around Shuzenji is lovely, and the hot spring voucher included with the stay gave us a reason to go out at night. My kids enjoyed the old-fashioned public bathhouse style. It’s tucked down a back alley and was hard to spot. We went past it several times before finding it. Once inside, it was so clean and stylish that my family and I wondered if we were really allowed to stay there. There are two large bedrooms upstairs, making it a good fit for a big group.

I only noticed I’d left something behind after checking out, while I was driving around West Izu. I’d called ahead to say I’d swing back in about 30 minutes, and when I got there, someone was waiting outside the inn for me. I was so embarrassed, but really grateful. For an affordable stay in a guesthouse or whole-house rental, this place seems like a great choice. The location and facilities are good, and the staff’s kindness says a lot.
