We came for some off-road biking and had a great time at this inn. The entrance had a lovely atmosphere, and the young fifth-generation couple have clearly put care and ingenuity into keeping the 120-year-old place clean and tidy. It’s right by the station rotary, just a short walk from the station. Two meals for 7,500 yen including tax felt very reasonable, about what you might pay at a guesthouse. The food wasn’t fancy, but it was satisfying, especially the miso soup. The bath felt hot-spring-like and gentle on the skin. Cards and Suica are accepted, which makes paying easy. The staff were welcoming and good-humored, even taking customers’ jokes in stride. We tried the sake, and I thought it was the best I’d ever had. We’d love to come back with other guests.

The food was simple, home-style cooking, but quite tasty. Many guests seemed to be men in town for work or construction jobs. My main concern was the women’s bathroom, which was in a separate shed-like building outside the main one and didn’t lock, leaving me uneasy. The tatami in my room felt rough and dusty, and the bed had a fuzzy feel when I got in. I was glad I’d brought my Insect Shield travel sheet. If cleanliness matters a lot to you, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Bond-kun was adorable. The place had a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel that took me back to my childhood home in the Showa era. I was lucky to meet the other guests staying that night, and it was quiet and comfortable. The only thing I missed was an outlet. I wish they had power strips to rent.

I forgot to take photos of the hotel interior! The landlady speaks English, and the facilities inside were very complete. The view from a second-floor window takes in all of KasKasama Station, which is handy. Just know that you’ll need to carry your luggage up stairs. You can rent bicycles next door, and there’s a pastry shop with a restaurant too. The baked pasta and fried rice were surprisingly good. It’s not crowded, but don’t expect nightlife: the shops close at 5 PM.
