The room was a good size, comfortable, and fitted with modern facilities. The hotel was clean, the staff were excellent, and the facilities overall were very good. There’s an onsen on site, a little cooler than I prefer but still a nice extra, and the drinks area in the main lobby was welcome too. It’s right by the station, with restaurants, supermarkets, and other shops all around. The New Gaea is one stop south of Kumamoto on the Kagoshima line, so getting into and out of the city is easy. It was a bit on the expensive side, but what’s provided justified the price. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re okay staying slightly outside town.

I had a really nice two-night stay. The room was spotless, the view was good, and the bed was comfortable. The pillows, though, were tiny and advertised as airweave. I’m not convinced that kind of pillow benefits everyone, since we’re all different. The reception lady or manager was professional and kind, and let us keep our bicycles inside by the front entrance. There’s a mineral spa on the second floor, a laundry room that costs ¥400, and complimentary evening drinks, including local alcoholic specialties and whisky. You serve yourself.

Everything was in great shape, and the room was quite large, especially the bathroom. It seemed like a newly built hotel. When I went to a nearby supermarket for food, I forgot to pick up chopsticks. The staff quickly gave me a pair when I asked, saving me from a chopstick crisis. It was funny too. The hotel is conveniently close to Nishikumamoto Station.

This is the only hotel I’ve stayed at that leaves a pack of towels for you if you don’t want your room cleaned.
