Village Kyoto

Our room could sleep up to six, with three super single mattresses and three tatamis, and it was huge. Heating in December was welcome. There’s an onsen, coin operated laundry, and free ice cream throughout the day. Breakfast was included and came as bento sets delivered to our room. The hotel is just outside the city center, and parking is about 100m away, which worked well for a family driving.

The free ice cream was a favorite, and there’s a lot included for the price. Everything felt comfortable and thoughtfully run, like the staff were really looking after us. They were so sweet and did their best to communicate in English. We stayed on vacation and had an amazing time. The service and baths were great too. I’d stay here again.

Tatami mats and futons give the rooms a traditional feel, and there’s plenty of space. The location is handy, with hankyu shijo omiya station next door and several bus stops nearby. I also appreciated being able to sample local snacks and sake for free.

We had five of us, two adults and three young kids, for four nights, and came away really happy with what we paid for. The location was great, with bus and train stations only a few minutes away and lots of shops and convenient shops close by. The large tatami room made it feel like a family sleepover, with beds and futon mattresses. Next time I’d book a superior room for more space, but I don’t really have anything to complain about. It isn’t luxury, but this kind of stay suits us. Every night after walking around cold Kyoto, we went to the public onsen to soak. The room had a small toilet and shower, though we hardly used the shower. Japanese pajamas were provided, and there was free sake and pickles tasting, lollies, and an arts and craft section in the lobby. Bento breakfasts arrived at the time we chose each morning. The room was cleaned well, all bed sheets were changed, and they took the pajamas too, even though we could have worn them for a few days. All the extras felt like more than we’d paid for.
