Dinner portions are huge, so come very hungry, especially for the crab course. I couldn't finish everything and had to waste some food. Breakfast, on the other hand, was an unremarkable buffet. The baths also seemed to be at different temperatures, and my girlfriend noticed it too. I've stayed in both wings. Rooms in the old wing are spacious but worn and dated, while the new wing's rooms are excellent.

For a reasonable price, this is an old onsen ryokan with good hot springs. The meals were just OK, and maintenance could be better.

Through Club Tourism, I stayed at Takejukaku, which is more than 50 years old. It's seriously run-down, though the Showa-era rooms have a nostalgic feel. The hospitality, hot springs, and food were all very good, and I'm rooting for the place. My wife apparently saw the shadow of something in front of the toilet in our room, then suddenly lost all her energy and went to sleep. I was surprised when she told me the next morning. If that sort of thing interests you, you might want to stay there.
