Hotel Amandi

There are several kinds of hot spring baths, so it could suit you if you like onsen. Getting there means changing elevators twice. The hotel overall is very old and poorly maintained, and the toilet is tiny and raised, which makes me wonder how an older person could manage it. Some facilities, like the gym, cost extra, and they aren’t easy to use.

The room was a little dated but fine, with everything we needed, and the onsen was great. I didn’t know tattoos weren’t allowed, so after about an hour an employee asked me to leave, even though nobody else was using the bath. My partner later said he saw a couple of fully tattooed men in his section, so the rule seemed to be applied unevenly. We’d paid $90 for the room thinking we could use the onsen facilities without trouble, which was disappointing.

The city view was beautiful, and the food was nice. The rooms were large, and the onsen was amazing.

At Amandi we had a wonderful stay. When rain disrupted public transport, the staff were very helpful with what we were trying to do and even upgraded us to a suite for free. There’s a simple restaurant, plus an authentic onsen downstairs that guests can use for free via the hotel elevator. It’s a bit dated, but that adds to its charm. We also enjoyed the little arcade and free manga library. Highly recommended, 9/10!
