Hotel Okura Niigata

Our view of the Bandai Bridge was lovely, and we were wicked close to the malls just across the way. I also loved the retro feel, especially the radio end-table in our room, one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a hotel room in a long time. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind, and made us feel welcome. The wifi was shockingly bad for 2025, and honestly it would’ve been bad in 2015 too. On the ninth floor we could sometimes connect, but it was so slow it might as well have been off. I wouldn’t usually care, except international travelers like us from the US often have limited data plans, so hotel wifi helps us keep usage in check. We could barely use it here. Everything else was so wonderful that I’m surprised they haven’t fixed this.

The view was incredible and the location was good. The room had all the amenities, plus a really interesting pillow design. Travelers with big bags may find it small, and the shower head was acting up a bit. Otherwise, I was very happy with the service and room.

The staff were welcoming, and the hotel was quiet, clean, and well looked after despite being an older place. The location worked well too. The weak point was WiFi in my room. To get a decent connection I had to sit in the lobby or near the elevator, which is why I didn't rate it five stars.

Vending machines are on nearly every floor, and the rooms are clean and cared for. The hotel is also handy for getting to the many shops in the shopping area.
