Agora Place Osaka Namba

We paid a bit more for this hotel after seeing mixed reviews for other places nearby, and it turned out to be a great choice. The rooms were roomier than the ones we’d had in Tokyo and Kyoto, and the air conditioning worked well. Everyone at the desk was kind and helpful, including with arranging to send our bags to the next stop. The location couldn’t have suited us better: Dotonbori and the shops are walkable, and train entrances nearby made it convenient to get to Nara Park. One downside was noise from young kids running along the halls at night. At times our room smelled of smoke despite the hotel being nonsmoking. Maybe ventilation from neighboring shops was involved, though I’m not sure.

Handy spot for subways, shops, and restaurants, and the customer service was great. Our room was clean, and having a washer and dryer was a real plus. Just be prepared for laundry to take a while: it took at least three drying cycles for our clothes, at 100 yen a cycle. Otherwise, I’d recommend it to anyone staying in Osaka.

Getting around was easy since the train station is nearby, and there were shopping areas and plenty of places to eat at all hours. We had a really good time and were happy with the stay.

Staff were friendly, and the transport links made this a convenient base for exploring. It’s right in a lively central area. My room, though, had a noticeable cigarette smell, and the hotel itself is very basic, with few facilities. It was also frustrating to have to pick up amenities at reception instead of finding them in the room. Fine for a short visit if location matters more than comfort.
