The owners were so welcoming, and I had a fun time chatting with them through my brother's limited Japanese and their English. We visited in August, and the early shuttle for Mt Rishiri was a big help. It leaves at 4:45, but getting up that early was worth it. The hostel is at the edge of town, though town is small enough that the pier is an easy 30-minute walk. They rent regular and electric bikes, and we really liked the electric ones. The common dining area was comfortable, and so was the sleeping area for me and my brother. If you're very bony and sleep on your side, though, I'd suggest lying on top of the comforter. We didn't cook, but the kitchen looked well equipped, and the bathrooms were clean. At about 4500 yen a night, with a lower nightly rate for longer stays, the price felt fair. It seems like a particularly good deal for solo travelers, and for the two of us it was still competitive with sharing a hotel or Airbnb room. It had pretty much everything you'd want in a hostel, especially for a mountain hike. Edit: I hadn't realized that fixing my typos would remove your reply!

The owner family can take you to or pick you up from the ferry terminal if you reserve ahead, and they also offer a 4:45 morning ride to the Mt. Rishiri hiking start. I stayed three nights to cycle around the island and climb the mountain, and would happily stay here again. The kitchen is roomy and well stocked, and there are bikes for rent and washing machines. A small supermarket is nearby. My bed was comfortable, everything was clean, and I liked sleeping with the window open and hearing the ocean.

I had to cancel one night at very short notice, and the family was really helpful about it. They're kind local owners, and the hostel has rides to the ferry and the start of the Mt. Rishiri hiking trail. The common room is super cozy, the kitchen has everything, and they rent high-quality road bikes, electric-assist bikes, and dirt bikes. Great value, maybe even the cheapest place on Rishiri. Highly recommend!

The whole place has a cozy, mountain hut feel, including the common room, and the private rooms are handy. The staff were even lovelier than the hostel itself. They offered to call restaurants for us to check whether they were open on a public holiday, then drove us to the ferry terminal in the rain. I'd definitely stay again if I get the chance.

The owners are genuinely kind, and the place was clean and comfortable. We also had a great common room and amazing views of Rishiri and the ocean. A really good stay.
