Hostel KIKO

I stayed at this hostel in October with a friend, and the beds were genuinely awful. We both caught bedbugs. The staff knew about it but did nothing, and the refund they promised never arrived. The staff are nice until there's a problem. They organize lots of activities inside, but it feels like a way to keep guests focused on something other than the hostel's poor condition. Even on a tight budget, I wouldn't stay there. The few yen you save can bring a lot more trouble.

There have been three recent reviews on Google and booking.com about bedbugs, so I canceled. I don’t want them in my belongings or the next place I stay. They refunded me the same day without charging a fee. Even so, because the weekend was busy and the other hostels were full, I’ll have to pay for a hotel for two nights, then switch to a cheaper place for another two. It’ll be expensive. They really should post an update about the bedbug situation. With the reviews being recent, someone must have brought them in lately.

I found a bedbug crawling on the curtain on the first night of a four-night August booking, so I left. The staff were very nice and offered to move me to another room, but I was too paranoid and chose to go. I didn't get a refund, though that's an Agoda issue. Cleanliness generally left a lot to be desired, and the place was expensive for what it was. I'd never seen a bedbug before, so finding one in Japan in such a dirty place shocked me. I guess it isn't the hostel's fault when so many people come and go.

It’s a spacious, quiet, welcoming hostel, with really friendly staff and volunteers. Everything was clean and comfortable. We joined one of the Saturday events to meet and interact with other people, and had a great time. I’d definitely recommend it and hope to come back someday :D
