It felt warm and homey, and the food was wonderfully Japanese.

The private bath worked well for our whole family, and the view was lovely. We could even hang our laundry out. The inn is easy to reach by public transport, though missing the bus may mean a fairly long walk. The building is old, but clean and cared for, with fairly modern toilets, air conditioning, an air purifier, and appliances. There’s no fridge or safe, but for the price that was fine. The staff, including the landlady, were so welcoming and friendly without being overbearing. They gave us detailed advice about swimming and local sights, and the place was very child-friendly. We arrived by train and bus and stayed two nights from July 31st. We’d worried about tsunamis, typhoons, and transport suspensions, but everything worked out and we came away with lovely memories. The food was generous, varied, and incredibly tasty, especially for what it cost. Nothing in particular was bad. I only wish the website had more information. It’s such a nice inn that I hope they promote it more and do really well. Thanks to everyone there. I’ll definitely come back when I visit Shimoda again.
The fresh seafood and vegetables grown there made for a lovely meal, and the hospitality was warm. Just be aware the inn is at the top of a flight of stairs.
The food was home-style and tasty, though the portions weren’t huge. We had small servings of boiled fish too. Our room had a great view, and they served dinner in the room. The young landlady and the landlady were both very pleasant. The rate was reasonable, 20,000 yen for two people, including beer, sake, and juice. Coffee was made for us in the morning. The bath is a very hot spring and private, with room for about 4-5 people. There are two baths, though depending on how many guests are staying, you may only be able to use one. We cooled it with water, but that diluted it quite a bit, so the spring ingredients may have felt less strong. The toilets are shared and have washlets. One toilet had been converted to a Western-style washlet, but legroom was tight. You also have to put away your own futon. The inn has a homey feel, a good view, and piping hot baths, and it’s good value. The main drawback is all the stairs to get there, which are quite a workout, so it’s not suitable if your legs are weak. Drinks aren’t provided, so buy some beforehand. Parking is down at the port, so watch out for salt on windy days. Prices are from March 2024.
The inn was spotless, and the proprietress and staff looked after us so attentively. We went for the all-you-can-eat course and left completely full. There was grilled turban shell, tempura, chawanmushi, simmered dishes, and plenty more. The Ikenda simmered miso hot pot, a local specialty, had fish and crab in it and a gentle flavor. The locally sourced mozuku salad, boiled golden snapper, and spiny lobster sashimi were all delicious too. The sashimi platter had a generous mix of very fresh fish, including golden snapper, horse mackerel, bonito, tuna, yellowtail, and sea bass. We heard that many of the fishing boats in Susaki are run by relatives, which is probably where the ingredients come from. We’ve found an inn we’ll definitely return to.
