I came here when work had me so overwhelmed, and I couldn't think of anything like a hobby to keep me going. Maybe it sounds dramatic, but sitting on the veranda under a sky packed with stars made the trip feel worthwhile. I found myself wishing I could live somewhere like this one day, get my peace of mind back, and then face the end of it all. One thing to watch out for: the guesthouse road follows a cliff, and grass hides the drainage ditch. It's hard to see, so I'd park before starting down the slope.

The owner is a cheerful, welcoming woman, and the inn feels homey. It was easy to spend a relaxed day there. I’d love to bring a group of friends and book it sometime. They seem able to host training sessions or camps for about 15 people, too. It’s up near the top of a mountain in Hirohashi, Shimoichi-cho, Nara Prefecture, known for its plum groves. The air is so clean, and seeing foxes or raccoons around isn’t unusual.

In spring, the plum grove is lovely, and the scent is calming. The view is wonderful too, especially if you catch the sea of clouds in the morning. Definitely something to see.
