The biggest problem was the air conditioning. The central system seemed to ventilate only the lobby and hallways. Even with it on full, no cool air came into my room. Reception offered to open the windows, which faced the main road, and brought me a Dyson fan instead. I could see other rooms across the road with their windows open too, so this didn’t seem limited to my room. I don’t mind an old, dated hotel, and the lobby looked well maintained. But this is apparently a 3 star hotel with a 4.2 average rating, and I’m baffled by those Google scores. I booked based on them and was extremely disappointed. If you’re fine with little or natural air, there are cheaper options. Otherwise, save yourself the trouble.

The centralized air system was a major problem. We couldn’t open the windows, and guests couldn’t adjust the air conditioning. The room was stuck at 25 degrees with no air. We were told lots of customers had complained, so this seems to have been going on for a while without being resolved. It’s a well located 3-4 star hotel, with a nice lobby and lounge perks like tea time and cocktails. But the rooms are quite tiny, even in the luxury category.

The lounge was good, and breakfast was excellent. The location is handy, close to a variety of shops and about a 15-minute walk from the train station. Just be aware there’s no gym, check-in time is enforced strictly, and “soft drinks” in the lounge means juice.

The room was comfortable and had more space than most places I stayed in Japan. There was also a little fridge with a few tasty drinks. A distinct, pleasant smell greeted me in the lobby and continued along the corridors.

The room was small despite us not booking the smallest one, and its layout felt awkward. The mattress was nice and firm, and the bedding was good. Staff were engaged and helpful. The complimentary tea service and evening bar were very nice, and the free breakfast was very good, though not great.
