Oyado Raku

We only had one night here, and I wish we’d stayed longer. The room was comfortable, and we had the best sleep with the sound of frogs from the field below. The shared washrooms and ofuru were super clean. It’s a lovely, peaceful place, worth the short drive from central Takayama. The hosts were warm, welcoming, and very hospitable.

I felt very safe here as a woman traveling alone, and the hosts were incredible. With the nearby Hida mountains and Takayama townships, it’s worth making this a multi-day trip. This was the best place I stayed in Japan, and I can’t recommend it enough. I hope to return someday with my mother. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. I’ll remember it forever.

The owners were amazing, the bath was lovely, and the rooms had a good view. 10/10, I’d give more if I could.

Years ago, I stayed at Oyado Raku, and I still think of it as the best lodging in Japan. Since then I’ve tried luxury hotels and plenty of other places, but none have matched it. The memory is still so dear to me. The owners were charming and wonderful, and their heartfelt hospitality moved me deeply. It felt like something no luxury hotel could surpass. Even after all these years, remembering that people with such good hearts are out there still makes me happy. I’ve had a lot happen in life since then, but this inn remains my favorite, and I’ve even dreamed of coming back with someone special after I get married. The food was the most carefully made and delicious I’ve had at any restaurant. I still remember the sparkling rice, excellent meat, and original, beautiful presentation. The building, rooms, and interior all had great taste, with an elegant, distinctive style that made me think the owner had seen many parts of the world.
