Ryokan Adumaya

Ryokan Adumaya is one of the finest places I've stayed. It's a historic building that has kept its high standards over the years, and the staff offered warm, professional service. The food was remarkable too. I'd recommend it to travelers looking for a memorable stay.

The kaiseki dinner was beautifully prepared, and the room's old exposed beams and vaulted ceiling gave it a real sense of history and space. We stayed in the ichi room, which was gorgeous and much bigger than we needed. The hot spring and outdoor garden were lovely, and having a personal hot bath after a tough day on the Kumano Kodo was a real bonus. It was a highlight of our trip. It's on the pricier side, but we felt it was worth the splurge for a special stay.

We had a vegetarian dinner arranged for me, and really enjoyed having the meal served in our room after a day of hiking. The room was a little dated but perfectly fine, with an ensuite, sink, small fridge and tea kettle, and the wifi worked well. It's an older hotel, which seems typical for the area. The staff were so friendly, the onsen was lovely, and there's a public onsen right across the street. A comfortable, friendly place with an authentic feel.

Dinner here was a luxurious three course meal, and afterward I slept peacefully on the futon they laid out. The ryokan has loads of charm, with kind, helpful staff and a beautiful onsen. If you like a traditional Japanese atmosphere, staying here feels like a whole experience. Some reviewers complain that one of the village's oldest ryokan is old, which is quite something.
