Hotel Mentels Sugamo

It's conveniently close to the station, which makes the somewhat high price understandable. The place is generally old and shows wear in spots, but it doesn't seem dirty. The bathroom has been renovated and is very clean. Shampoo and conditioner come in little packets, though there weren't any on the second day, and there's only soap too, which isn't very practical.

Even on the day of the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, I got a Saturday night stay for under 10,000 yen. The place may be a little far out, though that might not matter much. It's very easy to find, close to the station and visible as soon as you leave Sugamo Station. I wasn't expecting much, but the room was bigger than I thought and I could open my suitcase. It didn't feel dirty and was comfortable. Some of the room does feel old, but for the price it was more than enough. I got the impression there were a lot of women staying there. There were also lots of brothels in the area, so I wouldn't recommend it for families^^;

The place is fine if you mainly need somewhere to sleep. It’s about five minutes on foot from Sugamo Station, with the entrance on the Uradori side. The building’s dated, but it’s clean enough and doesn’t feel unpleasant. Staff were very polite, and the shower had lots of hot water. The air conditioner only has three settings, and the fixed hair dryer is pretty weak.

For a business trip, the low price, roomy clean room, nearby convenience store, and short walk from the station all work well. There’s an outlet by the pillow, so charging things is easy. The amenities come in small packets, and the body soap is a bar, while the old built-in dryer has very little power. The lobby is on the third floor, but the first-floor elevator lobby smells strongly of cigarettes, even though the room itself doesn’t. Getting to the hotel means walking through a back street, which felt a little unsettling. I wouldn’t recommend it for couples.
