Lavie Hatsudai

I wouldn't recommend this place. I stayed for two days last summer, and I kept coughing and felt quite unwell for no clear reason. After I moved to another hotel, I felt better. The room wasn't cleaned well either: the cushions had stains, and there was sticky liquid on both the tabletop and the air conditioner remote.

We spent three days here at the end of our Japan trip, hoping to relax, but it turned into one of our worst stays. My wife woke up on the first morning with several insect bites on her legs, and the automatic downstairs light came on at 7:00 every morning and woke us up. The hot water didn't work when we tried to shower. They asked us to send three videos and photos to an email address so they could 'see' the problem. We did as instructed, but still had no hot water. They offered to inspect the apartment with us there, but we declined. We were on vacation and didn't want to spend part of a day waiting around for a check or repair that should have happened before we arrived. Their proposed fix was to go to public baths, with them covering only the entry fee, not towels. We also asked for extra towels because each person had been given just one face towel and one head towel, which they said was for the body. They refused and told us to use our own. The managers offered no compensation or real solution. The service felt very impersonal and unprofessional, far below what we paid for. We wouldn't recommend this place if you want a restful stay and good service.

The room was tiny, but it was fine for me, my husband, and our daughter. We had no major problems during the stay, though they did try to say we caused a scratch on the floor. We managed to sort that out. The real hassle was having to carry our luggage up because there was no elevator.

It's an affordable place in a nice area, and the rooms are small but fair for the price. Communication with staff was friendly, though everything is handled online and there's nobody on site. Download the information in advance or make sure you have internet, or things can get inconvenient. The instructions could also be simpler.
