We had another really pleasant stay with this hotel chain. The hotel feels very new, and the service was excellent.

The manager’s response to a housekeeping mix-up was the main reason I’m writing this, though there were good parts too. The hotel is across from a large park and near the station. Breakfast was decent, there’s an onsen open from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and the complimentary bar runs from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We paid around $800 for five nights exploring Toyama and the surrounding area. The hotel itself wasn’t bad, but its cleaning procedure was unusually strict and confusing. Guests have to hang the green housekeeping sign on the door before 10:00 am, or the room won’t be cleaned. As I understand it, staff check which rooms have requested service and make the schedule from that. If you put the sign out at 10:00 or 11:00, the room won’t be cleaned that day. I’ve stayed in hotels around the world and never come across a system that makes guests keep worrying about remembering this. Usually putting a sign out before noon is enough, since housekeeping continues into mid-afternoon, but perhaps this is considered a more efficient way to manage staff. The sign even says guests can’t stay in the room from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm if they’ve asked for cleaning. I posted about that on Insta, and friends in different countries also thought it was unusual. Still, those are the rules. On the first day we realized we had to follow the process carefully, so the next morning I made a point of doing everything right. We left at 9:40 am and spent the day in another city. When we got back at 4:30 pm, the room still hadn’t been cleaned. I went to reception to ask why, and was told we hadn’t put up the sign. That surprised me, because I’d been thinking that morning about making sure the room was cleaned and the trash removed. No one at the front desk spoke English. I know this is Japan and English isn’t easy to learn, but it seemed unusual for a hotel welcoming international guests to have nobody at reception who could communicate in English, especially in 2026. The manager came to discuss the situation. He spoke a little English, but seemed unfriendly and visibly annoyed by my questions. I used ChatGPT to translate what had happened, and he typed into his own translator, “I don't know which of you is telling the truth — you or the housekeeper”. I asked him directly if he thought I was lying. He looked at me and said nothing. In the days after, he never greeted us or smiled when we saw him, and always seemed irritated and unhappy. By comparison, the women at the front desk and the man working in the breakfast area were absolutely friendly, kind, and professional. I have only positive things to say about them.

The evening all-you-can-drink sake and other alcoholic drinks were fantastic, and that alone made the trip worthwhile. They also put out some snacks, with a convenience store nearby if you want more. Opened in August 2025, the hotel is incredibly clean and its facilities are impeccable. My only small reservation was breakfast, which seemed a bit over capacity. There’s a breakfast timetable beside the elevator, so maybe that helps avoid the crowds. I was really impressed by the elevated business hotel experience and would stay again if I visit Toyama.

Breakfast was a nice touch, especially the staff member who chatted with me and offered sightseeing tips. The room could use tea bags or something, though. It was new and very clean, with a great view of Toyama Castle Park. The bed was so comfortable that I slept soundly until morning, and I liked having a wide range of pillows to choose from. Since it was a weekday, we nearly had the hot spring bath to ourselves. In the women's changing room, hair is often left scattered on the floor, but there were rollers and floor mops available for guests to use.

The large public bath was a nice bonus, and I thought the hotel was well worth recommending. The combination lock was convenient, and the room had a big table with plenty of space to work on a computer and put luggage. It was clean and the service was great. The hotel is right in front of the castle park, next to Sakuragicho, and close to Toyama Station. Even though it faces a main road, the soundproofing seemed good. Breakfast was okay but nothing special. I liked the disposable dishes, though my companion would have preferred regular ones. There’s parking next door, but it fills up quickly if you arrive a little late.
