OYO Hotel Kitaguni Grand Hotel Tsuruga

The food and hot spring are the main draw for me. You can get a decent meal at a fair price and have a relaxing soak. The building feels very much of the Showa era, though, with limited amenities and not much choice in food or drinks. If you're after a luxurious place, a spotless room, or lavish dining, this probably won't suit you. I took off a star because five might give people the wrong idea. I've said this already, but I'd still like to come back when sightseeing around Tsuruga or for work in the area.

The view over Tsuruga Station and the city is lovely, and the meals are generous for the price. Still, seeing part of the hallway ceiling collapsed and leaking was enough to put me off. The corridors are especially cold, and although there isn't a smoking area, smoking is allowed in guest rooms and the lobby. The rooms feel old fashioned. It was enjoyable for what it cost, but I wouldn't stay here again. I definitely won't be back.

The staff's warm, thoughtful service made the biggest impression on me. The waitresses were especially attentive, and I was grateful for their hospitality. The free shuttle from the station was a real help too. I was here on a business trip. The facilities are a little dated, but the hot spring was wonderfully relaxing and helped me recover from the trip's fatigue. I also really enjoyed the food. The combination of the baths, meals, and kind staff makes me want to stay here again.

Meals are brought to your room, and they'll lay out and put away your futon too. It's a very Showa-era kind of hotel, but good value. The balcony was really dirty, though. Mr. President, please give it a clean yourself when you get the chance. Our staff are working hard!
