I wouldn't stay here again. I've stayed in lots of places, and this was one of the worst. The bathroom condition was hard to believe: every shower mat was mouldy, as were the shampoo and conditioner bottles. The shelves outside the shower for putting clothes on were visibly dirty, and there wasn't even a basket. The toilet smelled strongly of sewage, so in the morning I went to a convenience store rather than use it again. The sink for brushing your teeth was covered with dirty toothbrushes and clearly hadn't been cleaned recently. The room itself was not too bad, but the futon was so thin that sleeping was difficult. There was also a dirty ashtray just outside my room, with a strong smoke smell, and it clearly wasn't cleaned often. It was shocking.

We were glad we could bring our dog, since the western-style rooms are dog-friendly. We had a cozy room with two twin beds and its own temperature control, which was great in the cold weather. The owner was very friendly and spoke good English. In the morning, the owner made us a delicious Japanese breakfast, including a fresh persimmon from the tree in front of the hotel. The photos don't show the whole meal. The shower and toilet are shared with other guests, but they were clean and that didn't bother us. We loved staying here, and Tsuwano is an adorable town I'd highly recommend visiting.

The host was enthusiastic and really attentive, making sure I was comfortable. My room had Netflix, and the food at the inn was the best. Such good value for money. If you're in the area, be sure to stay here.

The innkeeper was so kind and nice. This is an old, authentic Japanese-style inn, like the ones I see in Japanese movies. I'd stay here again if I visit shimane.
