Le Vert Zao

The dinners were excellent, with a different menu every night of our four-night stay. The staff were extremely helpful too.

There was lots of parking when we visited off-season. The staff were nice, and the food was good, though nothing especially memorable. The building isn't modern, but it's very clean and well maintained.

The room was a nice mix of western and Japanese styles, though in room 309 something like rust seemed to come out of the faucets. Quite a few staff were out with the flu, so we couldn't rent skis at the hotel. We also didn't get much help with finding places to eat in town or getting recommendations. The location was decent. It's about a five-minute walk to the slope, so not quite ski-in, ski-out. The walk up from the town center is a bit of a climb, but they do provide some shuttle service.

The staff were lovely and really caring. They even drove us to a rental shop and the bus station, and the ski and snowboard drying room was very clean. We stayed five nights at Le Vert Zao, in a great spot about a two-minute walk from the slope and near a chairlift and ropeway station you can ski down to. The walk uphill from Zao bus station is a bit of a trek, but you can ask for a transfer. We tried all three dinner choices, Japanese style, suziyaki, and shabu shabu, and they were all delicious. Breakfast was a very good buffet with both Japanese and western food. The onsen is basic, but it was plenty after a day on the piste and all that good food. Lawson is about five minutes away on foot. I'd recommend it for a ski or snowboard trip in Zao. :)
