Asia Hotel Battambang

The staff were super friendly and respectful, and the location is good. But the rooms weren’t very clean, especially under the bed. Ants kept getting into the bedroom through the bathroom vent, electrical plug, windows, or wherever else they were coming from. It was really annoying. I couldn’t lie in bed without ants on me. The hotel is nice, but they need to deal with the ants.

The rest of the staff were pleasant, but the man at reception was so rude when we arrived that he made us feel unwelcome. He acted like we hadn’t booked, and there wasn’t much help with information about tours, food, or anything else. Each time we went outside, tuk tuk drivers by the entrance hassled us and argued over who would take us. If the hotel has drivers outside the door all the time, they should recommend one. There were other problems too. The room had air con, but they took away the remote unless we paid extra for it. Hot water also cost extra, even though we hadn’t chosen a room without it. There was no toilet paper, and I wondered if that was another extra charge. Our towel was yellow with dirt on it. We were told laundry cost $1 per kg by the woman at reception, but later the same man tried to charge us $1.50 until we challenged him. It’s cheap and cheerful, but that’s about it.

The room was spacious enough, and check-in went smoothly. The floor could have been cleaner, with dust and hair under the furniture. The location and price were okay, and among the hotels we’d stayed at in Battambang, Asia Hotel would rank near the top. Walking back at night was a bit dark. A friendlier receptionist would have been nice, and might have encouraged us to stay longer.

For about $15, we got a two-bed room at this very budget-friendly hotel. I stayed one night, and the room was pretty clean, with air conditioning and a fan. There’s no lift, so be ready to walk upstairs.
