The place is clean, new, and well placed for hiking or skiing, so it has a lot going for it. Our twin room had been double booked, though, and we couldn't stay in the one we'd reserved. That can happen, but the response was poor. I had to keep pulling information and alternatives out of the staff instead of getting an email ahead of time, reassurance, or suggestions at reception. The locker key I got also opened someone else's things, and the staff just shrugged. The unfriendly, unconcerned attitude really spoiled it.

The hostel is in good shape, with new beds and clean, pleasant bathrooms. There's just one toilet on each floor, which can get annoying. It's on the edge of the city, nearly an hour on foot from the center, so you'll need a taxi. My main complaint is the manager, who can be lazy and pretty irritating, even if probably not on purpose.

The mountain view from the third floor is lovely, and the hostel is clean, quiet, and on the way to the mountains. But keep your valuables with you. About 13 thousand tenge disappeared from my wallet, and the owners offered no help. They refused to check the footage, even though the hostel was almost empty and only two of us, including me, had stayed in the room that night. Someone could enter the room, and it happened within a short time. The owner's first response was that it was my fault for leaving my bag in the room. It was nighttime, and you don't take your backpack up to the second level of a bunk bed. The reaction felt ridiculous and unfriendly. If something goes wrong, don't expect support. Maybe this is only for locals. Good luck to you!

The price is the lowest I've found in the city, and it includes a lovely breakfast. The hosts are very friendly, and the beds are comfortable.

The staff speak English and were incredibly helpful, and the place was very clean. It's also in a handy spot for Medeu and Kok Tobe, two of the city's must-see places. Awesome place.
