Ali Grand Hotel

Ali Grand Hotel worked out as a comfortable, welcoming stay, though whether I'd return depends on the price and getting a different room. I stayed for a week in a Deluxe King Bedroom, which was spacious, softly bedded, and had a decent bathroom and enough light. It looked much like the review photos. I can't speak for the standard or supreme rooms. I did get several bed bug bites, though not enough to make the room feel infested. I'd keep luggage and clothes away from the bed. Maybe I'd come back for the price in another deluxe room; if money weren't a concern, I wouldn't stay here. The cafe downstairs was the best part for me. I ate there most days and nights, though one dish cost around 80,000-160,000 LAK when I wrote this, which is pricey compared with other places. There's also a spa, but I tried it and wouldn't recommend it. WiFi often failed, which also meant the TV didn't work, and there were no irons for clothes. Staff and service were okay, and the front desk understood and spoke enough English. The location is okay and near the airport, but getting there wasn't as easy as you'd expect. The cafe and airport proximity were the hotel's strongest points.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the room was serviced daily with fresh towels. Although the hotel is down the street from the airport, I didn't hear any planes. There are basic supplies along the hotel road, and tasty restaurants are within walking distance. My family booked three standard rooms, and each came with different amenities. I had a standard king room, and it would've been good to know beforehand that it had no window. There were small ants, including some on my bed. Something large enough to be a rodent seemed to move inside the walls up to the ceiling on our floor, which was disturbing and creepy. My keycard kept deactivating, so I had to return to the front desk repeatedly to get it turned back on.

The rooms are large, clean, and very quiet, and there's an elevator. Some rooms don't have windows, but that was okay. The location is convenient, close to everything, and the prices are affordable. Staff speak English and Chinese. There's also a nice coffee place on the lobby level.

After hours of traveling along the rural side of the Mekong and failing to find anywhere to stay, we finally came across Ali Grand. The reception staff were very helpful, and our room had a beautiful river view.
