Lao Plaza Hotel

This is nowhere near a 5-star hotel. We booked a wheelchair-accessible room, but the bathroom we were shown was dated and had an old-style bathtub, making it completely inaccessible. The check-in clerk just shrugged and said, “that's all we have”. When the duty supervisor came, they told us, “You can leave if you don't want it.” There was no apology, explanation, or offer to find another hotel. I also saw two other customers complaining about unrelated matters. The staff seemed clueless, and the hotel came across as very unprofessional.

There were lots of mosquitoes at the entrance, so regular disinfection would be a good idea. Otherwise, the Lao Plaza Hotel is very good and comparable to the Amari Hotel and Holiday Hotel.

The lobby breakfast was delicious, and the staff were great. They still let me check in at 2AM after my flight. Nice, clean place.

The breakfast is the best in Vientiane city, but several parts of the stay were disappointing. The floor in the room had a very unpleasant smell, and one bed light couldn't be switched off, a sign of how dated the facilities are. The light on the other bed did work. At the front desk, the receptionist said my reservation had been changed from a single to a twin. But my confirmation email and the paper they had both clearly said twin, and nobody apologized for the mix-up. I also asked about a late checkout and was told they'd call after checking. An hour passed with no word, so I called myself and was told the late checkout was fine. Does that normally take so long? I went to the sauna around 8:10 PM, knowing it was open until 9 PM, but the power was already off. I looked around the floor for staff and couldn't find anyone, so I couldn't use it. That was quite disappointing given the accommodation fee and the services I couldn't access.
