The location is stunning, on a small plot with its own little beach right beside two other beautiful beaches, Balance Beach and Pera Beach. Both are for swimming rather than surfing, which is hard to find around here. Our corner room ( Panoramic ) made the most of the position, with stunning views to the front and side. Staff were wonderful. The hotel was built eleven years ago and is looking a little tired in places, particularly in the rooms, where the furniture and balcony doors were chipped and faded. The dining and breakfast room had a business conference feel, with bad piped music and fake flowers. Breakfast was mixed: a great fruit platter and fresh hot tea, but a very average English style breakfast. We stayed one night, which was just about all the wardrobe could handle. We walked in off the beach while all the hotels were offering good rates. A refresh and refurb, and possibly more generous wardrobe facilities, would transform the hotel. But keep the staff!

I really loved the hotel’s layout, and wandering around the grounds was lovely. The walls had historical photos that offered a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s past, which I enjoyed. My room was very clean, and the balcony view was breathtaking. There are beautiful ocean views from the rooftop restaurant too. I stayed in December last year, and the staff were friendly. Such a beautiful stay :-)

The beachside location was the best part, with easy access to the shore and a lovely spot for a morning walk. We only booked one night at Garton's Cape in Galle and weren’t expecting much, so it was a pleasant surprise. The pool was excellent and had an infinity-pool feel. Our triple room had a separate room for the kids, a thoughtful feature, and the rooms had a nice heritage look. The bathroom was quite small, though, and its door creaked. We asked for Jain food and they made it for us. Breakfast was fine, but the choices were a little limited.

We arrived around 8pm on February 1, 2026, and the receptionist was unfriendly and a bit sharp with us. It didn’t feel like a warm welcome. The room itself was nice, and the private beach looked beautiful. But after rain the next day, we returned to find the whole floor wet. When we asked the same unfriendly receptionist for towels to dry it, she told us to use the bathroom towels. I don’t think that’s how guests should be treated. We asked for the room to be cleaned after three days, which turned out to be a big mistake. When we came back, my suitcase was open and €250 was missing. I had left it closed, with the money hidden in my clothes. Be careful here, lock your suitcase or use the locker. Also bring your own drinks, since they wouldn’t serve us any at the private beach. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but so much went wrong that I don’t want someone else to have the same experience. For me, this is a two-star hotel at best, and the private beach only brings it up to three stars maximum.

The only real frustration was the Wi-Fi. It barely worked for almost all of our four-night stay. Everything else was lovely: the property, rooms and outdoor spaces were charming, well cared for, and unique. There are two pools and a private beach, and every staff member we met was friendly, attentive and ready to help. We also rented a scooter through the hotel and had no problems. The breakfast buffet was delicious, with a good range of dishes.
