Ella Bamboo Cabana

We arrived at 7:30 in the evening after booking and receiving confirmation, only to be told by a woman who lived downstairs that the rooms were already full. We called the owner five times with no answer. Eventually the residents called, and the owner picked up right away. They said another guest had a water problem and was given our room. The owner never contacted us afterward, even when I texted, and nobody apologized. We were left to find another hostel in the middle of the night, out in the middle of nowhere. There were no cars, tuktuks, or anything at the tree house. It was the worst experience we had, and we felt completely ignored and mistreated. If they'd told us the day before, we could've avoided all that trouble and worry.

The hosts were unbelievably friendly, and the setting and view made the whole stay unforgettable. Such a delight, and highly recommended.

We had a large breakfast every day, and even on our early departure they packed one for us to take away. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. We stayed in the upstairs room, which had a beautiful view of the hills. It's a very basic guest house, about a 15-minute walk from Ella Town. Nights were the downside: lots of insects got in through holes in the mosquito net, leaving dead bugs on the bed by morning. The water also took a long time to heat up and had weak pressure.

The top room was a lovely place to stay, surrounded by jungle and with an amazing view. It felt really special. At night, monkeys and other animals can make some noise on the roof. The train passes right in front of the house in the morning, but not at night. Light sleepers might want to bring earplugs.
