Our private balcony with two comfortable chairs was fantastic, and the room itself was spacious, with a fridge, big fan, and fairly modern bathroom. There’s no AC, but Ella stays fairly cool overnight. The one thing I’d change is the lighting: the only lights were harsh white ceiling spots, so a couple of bedside lamps would make evenings nicer for reading and relaxing. We stayed three nights and had a good breakfast each day. It’s a lovely, down-to-earth homestay, a short walk or tuk-tuk ride from central Ella. The owners were welcoming and helped us arrange taxis and tuk-tuks. You can also start the Ella Rock hike from here pretty easily.

Danu was a real highlight, so kind and helpful, and he took great care of things during our stay. My boyfriend and I spent two nights at Will’s Homestay. The views from the room were beautiful, and the setting really does feel immersed in nature. We liked being outside busy Ella, even though getting up and down is less convenient and costs more than in other cities, since PickMe doesn’t work here. The homestay gives you a tuk-tuk contact, and they were usually available. We paid 500 LKR each way to Ella town, 1000 LKR to the Nine Arches Bridge, and 1600 LKR to the Little Adam’s Peak trailhead. The WiFi was the biggest downside. It barely worked and was very slow. The bathroom smelled a bit odd, and this wasn’t the cleanest place we stayed in Sri Lanka, though it was still okay and didn’t bother us too much. Breakfast was good and they clearly tried hard, but we’ve had better at similar places. The fruit wasn’t as good, it wasn’t as filling, and it took a long time to arrive, so allow extra time for breakfast. Even so, we felt the price was good for what we got, and it’s a nice choice if you want a peaceful spot in nature just outside Ella.

The best part for us was how kind and helpful the owners and staff were. They arranged transport around Ella, picked us up when we arrived, and helped us get away when we left. We also really appreciated the large balcony and its lovely view, plus the mini fridge and the neatly made bed waiting for us. The location just outside town suited us well, since Ella itself felt quite busy and we liked the quieter atmosphere here. Some parts of the room are a little dated and could be cleaner, but it had what we needed for a comfortable stay and was very good value. We’d definitely recommend it.

The hosts, Will and his family, made us feel cared for from the moment we arrived. They were attentive without hovering, and helped with things like station pickups and hiking advice. That warmth is a big part of what makes Will Guest Homestay special. The views are another highlight. Most rooms open onto private balconies facing Ella Rock and the valley. We woke to misty peaks, tropical birds, and the distant sound of the train. It’s a peaceful setting, yet only a short scenic walk from the busy center, restaurants, and shops. Breakfast was a treat, with coconut rotis, spicy dhal, hoppers, tropical fruit, and local curd. It’s served slowly on the balcony, so you can eat while taking in the scenery before a day of hiking. Our room was spacious, clean, bright, and airy, with reliable hot water and comfortable bedding. It had a rustic feel while still being well maintained and comfortable. For us, the hospitality, scenery, and stay itself became a highlight of the trip.

The guesthouse tuk-tuk driver was kind and always offered us fair prices. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with amazing scenery all around, and the staff were super friendly. The views are great too.
