We had planned to stay one night, but left that evening after just an afternoon. My wife was already getting sick when we arrived, and we wanted somewhere decent for her to rest. Instead, we felt uncomfortable for several reasons. The owner didn’t know about our booking, questioned us, then reluctantly gave us the last room for the night and made a fuss because it had AC. We might have stayed anyway if the room had been acceptable. Like the rest of the place, it was run down, with rust and corrosion on the metal fixtures. Empty mosquito-repellent bottles hadn’t been cleared, and there was only one towel for the two of us. It all felt careless and neglected, especially on the owner’s part. We gave up the non-refundable payment and moved on to our next destination that night. I hadn’t planned to post a review since we didn’t stay the full night. But when I told the owner we were leaving early because my wife was sick, he responded by accusing us of not deciding properly before coming. That was offensive, especially since I’d already paid in full and wasn’t asking for compensation. The exchange changed my mind. I usually prefer to live and let live, but travelers should be aware.

We were the only customers, but the two young waiters stayed on their phones for at least ten minutes. Nobody greeted us, brought a menu, or showed us to a table. Is this what Sri Lankan hospitality is like? Where does this approach lead, and how is the country supposed to progress? Is it worth training staff like this, or should they be fired straight away?

The best part was definitely the staff. They helped us with everything, and the service was impeccable. The food was delicious, and we had a lot of fun on the lagoon safari. We also tried the wakeboards, which was great fun, and learned kitesurfing with his son. They’re the best! The location is lovely, next to the ocean with a beautiful view, and about a 20-minute walk from the lagoon. Thanks so much for an incredible stay!

Ocean Beach Resort had spotless rooms with a beautiful sea view. The staff were so welcoming and ready to help, and we really enjoyed the fresh seafood at the restaurant. The sunset views were breathtaking, too. Great location, service, and atmosphere.

The beach was clean and lovely for a swim. There’s water sports equipment to rent, dolphin watching tours are offered, and Kudawa public beach is within walking distance. The owner and staff were kind and gave us good service. We stayed one night with friends and their families while visiting the Kalpitiya area. The location feels private even though it’s in a residential area. Cabanas sit close to the beach, with trees all around and sandy ground. We liked the layout. Getting there was tricky because Google Maps showed the wrong road near the end, so watch for the hotel’s direction signs. We had AC rooms, and it worked well despite the heat. The furniture was basic, but travel adapters were already plugged into the sockets, and there was a foldable mosquito net we didn’t need. The bathroom was clean, with soap and toilet paper provided. It was a quiet period, so the restaurant wasn’t ready for quick orders. We didn’t eat there, though they were willing to serve us. We liked the place a lot.
