The hosts were the best.

I went in with very low expectations, but I really felt the warmth that’s part of Korean culture. From the start, the owners, a man and a woman, were polite, kind, and attentive without being overly formal. My wife loves kasari, so I bought one locally at a mid-range price and asked if they could help put it on. They spent nearly 30 minutes helping, with the care of a mother dressing her daughter. They adjusted and rearranged it a couple of times when they weren’t satisfied with how it looked. Our original peak-season route was Kandy, Haputale, Ella, then Mirisha, Weligama, Hikkaduwa, and Colombo. But Kandy-Ella train tickets were sold out, and we wound up standing for seven hours. The owners felt that was too much for tourists and suggested reversing the trip, going from Galle to Ella, then taking a train back to Haputale and Colombo. The station was fully booked until a month later, so they offered to change the direction and went to the station to make the reservation for us. We paid for the next day's ticket and got a precious first-class seat. My backpack was torn, and they repaired it for us at a reasonable local price. The room was incredibly clean, with no mosquitoes or bugs in sight. The standing fan was strong and the hot water excellent. It was cleaner than other places costing 30,000 to 40,000 won. The building is being renovated, and the exterior doesn't look like a typical hotel, so it might seem cheap. Still, my husband and I felt it was the best value accommodation we found on our recent month-long trip. The family is so warm and friendly. If you're looking for a place under 50,000 won, you'll be more than satisfied for less than half that price. This is a photo of my wife wearing a sari.
