Lake Reach Hotel

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We booked for the week of the bad weather and cyclones, but had no way to get to Kandy. The hotel refunded only half our payment, while every other hotel we’d booked gave us a full refund. I understand they had held the room for us and couldn’t offer it to someone else, but people couldn’t get there by train from Colombo either.

I went to the Chinese restaurant yesterday with my Sri Lankan driver, and it was one of my worst experiences. Nobody greeted me when I walked in, so I had to find a table myself. Once I found one inside, the staff wanted me to sit outside instead. There were only Chinese people there, and I felt very unwelcome, like they didn’t want me there at all. I was hungry, so I still ordered food, but it took an hour to arrive. That’s not okay. The food was all right, but the staff were really bad. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I don’t know whether the Chinese people there dislike Europeans or what was going on, but something felt off. If you’re not from China, don’t go here. You’ve been warned!

There’s a big “pub” sign outside, but they don’t actually serve alcohol. I found that misleading.

The beds and good quality linens made for a comfortable night, and the rooms were clean and looked after. The staff were friendly and attentive, too. I came to Lake Reach Hotel in Kandy with friends and really enjoyed the food. The Chinese cuisine tasted authentic, and I think it’s the best in Kandy. Prices might seem a little high at first, but the portions were generous and worth it. A lovely place to eat and stay.
