Halcyon Mawella

The beach was quiet and very clean, and the waves were just right for bodyboarding. There were loungers by the pool and along the beachfront. We loved this hotel right on the beach. The rooms were beautifully designed, with air conditioning and private balconies, and the helpful staff made things easy. The restaurant offered a good mix of Sri Lankan dishes, specials, and some Western options.

From my large balcony I could look straight out to sea, and the room was tastefully furnished with local designs and details. It was a pleasure to walk along the unspoilt beach and swim. Even the small restaurants felt connected to local food and culture. The staff were friendly, hardworking, and helpful, and nothing felt like too much trouble. Zander (owner) also impressed me with his care for the environment and his work supporting locals through a Foundation selling soaps, clothing etc.. I really admire him. A lovely place to begin or end a trip.

Halcyon sits on a secluded beach that feels rare to find these days, and we were sad to leave such a special spot. The staff were lovely and pleasant, and Chef Nash's food was delicious, with local ingredients celebrated. Xander the GM was friendly and incredibly accommodating. We loved our stay and will be back.

We spent a week here and wished we could've stayed longer. The beach is peaceful and just a few steps from the room, with only the pool in between. Our bed was comfortable, and the decor was tasteful. The lovely staff were friendly and helpful, while the owner and his big friendly dog were around all day. He's very welcoming and doing great things for the local community. The food and drinks were all delicious, and breakfast came with the best coffee. The only interruption was fishermen asking us to help haul their boat up the shoreline.
