Sigiri Heritage Villa

The family who own the place were the best part, really sweet, flexible, and professional. The facilities were nice and in line with what we expected for the price, the pool area was nice too, and the mosquito nets saved us during the night.

A good place with good hosts and nice staff. The rooms are clean and great, the garden is beautiful with a pool, and the food is excellent. Room 6 is the exception. It’s damp and dark, with lots of problems. The light switch was dirty, the bedside lamp didn’t work and there was no socket for it, and only one electrical socket in the room worked. Room 6 is worth 10% of the other rooms at Heritage Villa.

For €15, there are much cleaner places in nicer locations around Sri Lanka. During my month on the island, this was easily my worst accommodation experience. The rooms were extremely dirty, and the place felt far too expensive for what it offered. When I complained, the staff were disappointing and not at all welcoming. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, and I’m sharing this so others can avoid the same unpleasant experience.

We left after just one night, even though we had booked two. The bathroom was disgusting: the shower wouldn’t drain, and dirty water came back up, leaving the second person to stand in sewage water. The room itself was filthy, with stained walls and sheets, a dirty fridge that didn’t work, and barely enough space to walk, let alone unpack. It was also beside reception with no soundproofing, so there was constant noise and no chance to rest. On arrival they couldn’t find our reservation and made us wait, then rushed furniture in from another room before handing it over. They didn’t apologize when we left, and charged another $22 on top of an already overpriced stay. We paid $97 for what felt like a dirty storage room. This feels like a tourist trap that overcharges unsuspecting travelers. Avoid it.
