Randiya Sea View Hotel

A practical base for a short stay in Mirissa, especially if you want a central location rather than a luxury resort. Mirissa beach is right across the road, and restaurants, Parrot Rock, and other attractions are walkable, so getting around without transport is easy. The rooms are spacious and clean, many with sea or pool views, and the clean pool is decent for unwinding after the beach. Staff were generally helpful and friendly, and the price is good compared with other places nearby. There are some drawbacks: being near the main road means noise at busy times, and housekeeping and maintenance can be uneven, with slow service, small room issues, or breakfast not always well managed.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and always willing to help, which made the stay even better. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the meals were high quality with plenty of variety. Right in front of the hotel, the beach offered beautiful views. Waking up to the waves and scenery was so relaxing. I’d recommend it to anyone after a peaceful break with lovely views, good food, and great service.

The Wi-Fi has a 300MB download limit, rather than just a speed cap. The rooms and bathrooms were covered in black mould, balcony doors wouldn’t shut fully and let mosquitoes in, and dead cockroaches had been left in shared areas. I changed rooms three times, so it wasn’t just one bad room. I saw none of this elsewhere in Sri Lanka and put it down to lazy management. This was the most disgusting hotel of my two-week trip, and one of the worst places I’ve stayed in over 20 years of travel. Definitely avoid it.

Mould in the shower and a very strange smell nearly made me sick, so I checked out a day early. There were insects and ants on the bed too. The receptionist was very nice and offered to move me, though I don’t think a different room would have helped. I’m giving it 2 stars for the receptionist’s kind gesture. The room itself deserves a negative rating and shouldn’t be offered to paying guests.
