I was mugged less than 20 feet from Dar Lalla Kenza’s front door, and another guest told me she had been mugged too. I’d asked the hotel staff how to reach the tourist area of the Medina, and they told me it was all safe. It wasn’t. When I told them what happened, they blamed me. I’m upset that they directed me toward a dangerous area without showing any empathy or indicating they would change their guidance for future guests. If they’d told me to use the main entrance where almost all tourists enter the Medina, I believe I’d have been safe. Please don’t stay here.

Good value in the Medina of Fès. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the rooftop was a great place to spend the evening.

The rooftop gives you views over much of the Medina, and the riad is an ornate example of a 19th century family home. Although it’s among the Medina’s narrow streets, it’s just a short walk from a lively square where taxis are easy to find. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Kareem was such a welcoming, accommodating host, and we felt right at home. The breakfast was the best, too. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in Fez!

The comfortable living room and nearby cheap cafes and bakeries were nice perks. Since it’s outside the medina, you don’t get lost, but it can be hard to find the first time if you haven’t called the hostel ahead.
