Dar Rosa

This is a traditional family place in the old town, near the Medina, and it gives you more of a feel for local life. It's quiet, and the friendly owners are happy to help you feel comfortable. The people, good neighbors, and price earn it three stars from me, but I'd take off two for cleanliness and comfort. It doesn't have all the comforts you'd get in a hotel.

BE CAREFUL!! The rooms are clean and nice, but the location isn't great and the place is very hard to find. There are two Dar Rosas, and you don't know which one you'll get. Dar Rosa 2 is nicer than Dar rosa 1. The first time we stayed, things went okay, though it was confusing. The second visit, we were completely ripped off. They quoted us a much higher price than the one on Booking, so we spoke to Fatima, who immediately changed the Booking price and left us having to pay more. They were rude and unhelpful. Neither place really has English-speaking staff, apart from Fatima, who is hardly ever around. Breakfast wasn't great either. They almost refused to give us tea and coffee and didn't have enough food for both of us. I wouldn't recommend it.

The price was good and the rooms were somewhat nice, but they were also kind of filthy. Finding the house was a real problem: the owner didn't seem able to mark the property properly on Google Maps or Open Maps. We had to deal with street thugs who offered to guide us and then wanted money for it. A boy was the only person at the house when we arrived, and he couldn't speak English. Later, that same boy got us into trouble with some creepy, criminal-looking people from the street. When we asked him about them, he said they were okay, probably because he couldn't understand English.

My friend and I were physically and verbally harassed by three boys waiting for tourists to arrive at the hotel. We had to run away and find somewhere else to stay. When we contacted the hotel asking for a refund, they said it was none of their business. The narrow street makes the hotel tricky to reach. If you're women travelling alone, be aware that boys wait at the start of the street ready to assault you, and the hotel won't take care of it.
