Riad Dar Selen

The terrace and hot tub were lovely for winding down at the end of the day. Just mention in advance if you plan to use the tub so they can make sure the water is warm. Even though it's inside the Medina, nights were very quiet, and the beds were super comfy, so we slept well. I stayed with my family in April 2019 and we had an amazing experience. The food was heavenly, and Hassan was always happy to bring us delicious mint tea. Every room was super clean and stylish, adding to the simple, charming, welcoming feeling when you step into the Riad. It was amazing, and I'd stay nowhere else if I return.

Hassan was an amazing manager, and his help with taxis, laundry, and lavish breakfasts was enough on its own to earn five stars. Our room's shower area was a highlight, though the beds could have been more comfortable. The Riad is a bit out on the eastern edge. The higher-quality Souks seem to be on the west side of the medina. To find it from the Bab Aylan, walk about 50 m into the medina to the first alley on the right, then take the next right into another alley and keep going to the end. The Riad is on the right, with a sign on the door.

Hassan and Jamila made traveling with our 5-month-old so comfortable. They helped with laundry, food, and boiling water, and we could have dinner beside our room while the baby slept. Jamila is a wonderful cook and made what we liked; breakfast was good too. Hassan was always kind and ready to answer questions. The riad is beautifully and simply decorated in Moroccan style, spotlessly clean, and has places to relax both downstairs and on the sunny or shaded roof terrace. It’s in a local part of the medina, within walking distance of Djemaa el Fna and other main sights. We’d definitely return to Marrakech and stay here again. Barakallahu feek!

The walk to the main square takes about 20 minutes. I first thought that sounded far, but wandering those extra minutes was part of the experience and I appreciated it. The riad is right by the main wall, so getting a taxi is easy. It worked really well for our larger group: separate rooms gave us privacy, while the ground-floor tea room, dining room, and roof terrace gave us space to spend time together.
