Riad De Vinci

The bathroom sink still had hair from whoever stayed before us, so the room hadn't been cleaned properly. The place felt filthy and rundown, despite what the misleading photos suggest. Black mold covered the ceiling, and the smell was unbearable. Every other hotel was full, so we had no choice but to stay. The older man I assume was the manager acted surprised when I raised it. His answer was to dump bleach around the room, leaving it reeking of mold and chemicals. We slept with the windows wide open in the freezing December weather, shivered all night and woke with headaches. We tried for a refund that night and again the next morning. He kept acting as if the owner would handle it, which was another poor performance. Just before our airport departure, they offered a free hammam or massage, apparently timed to avoid a real solution. Later they said waiving the city tax and covering a 15 euro transfer somehow made up for a mold-infested room. Rude staff and a deceptive owner. There are better, more affordable places nearby. Stay far away.

We couldn't make our reservation because snow closed roads through the Atlas Mountains and forced us to reroute. Several other places affected by the change were understanding and refunded us despite their cancellation policies. Riad de Vinci did not. We respect cancellation policies, but when extreme weather and closed roads make travel impossible, I expected more understanding. Very disappointed, and I wanted other travelers to know. The photos and Medina location caught our eye, and Riad de Vinci lived up to them. We were after an authentic place with character in the old town, and it had all that and more. The owners and staff made us feel welcome, and the riad had everything we wanted. Would I come back? In a heartbeat.

The staff were the best part of our six days at Riad de Vinci. They made us feel cared for, gave excellent suggestions, and shared personal stories about life in Marrakech. We were four, with adult children, and chose the suite with a queen bed and two twins. It was cozy, but fit both our budget and expectations. As first-time visitors to Morocco and frequent travelers in Europe, we found the whole riad clean and nicely appointed. The location made it easy to get around. We’ll definitely recommend it to friends.
