Riad du Petit Prince

The Riad is lovely and sits in a good spot in the medina. We were greeted with mint tea and a helpful introduction. The rooms aren’t very soundproof, though, so we could hear other guests. The bigger letdown came when we were leaving. We’d told the host the day before that we needed to go early, and were told breakfast would be ready at 6:45am. Nobody was there when we came downstairs. Someone arrived at 6:50 and said they hadn’t been told about an early breakfast for our rooms, so we headed out on our excursion without eating.

The courtyard and its pool are beautiful, and the staff looking after the place were friendly and helpful. The Riad is right inside the medina, which made for an interesting stay. Our room felt small for four people and was quite dark, though perhaps that’s part of the style. The furniture, lamps, and vases throughout the hotel are lovely.

The staff and location really make this a great place. Everyone was helpful and hospitable. There’s a cool, restful main courtyard with an orange tree and lots of little birds, plus a rooftop seating area that’s especially relaxing in the evenings.

Hamid, the manager, was a real highlight. He’s lovely to talk to, always has useful suggestions, and was around whenever we needed help. Nothing seemed like too much trouble, and people like him can turn a holiday into a great one. The Riad is in a quiet alley off a lively street full of Marrakesh character, and most sights are an easy, interesting walk away. Inside, it feels like a peaceful break from the souks. The rooms were comfortable and clean, with a powerful shower, ethnic-style furniture, a huge bed, and a Nespresso machine. The roof terrace has comfortable chaises longues and is a lovely place to watch the sunset during the call to prayer. We enjoyed a meal there on arrival, and the tagine was the tastiest of our trip. I’d also recommend taking up their airport taxi offer, since finding the place could be difficult otherwise. Marrakesh itself is a great place to experience another culture, and the people are very friendly. The Riad du Petit Prince is well worth a visit.
