The hammam at the hotel spa was an experience my 16-year-old wanted to try. We sat in the steam for ten minutes, which she found challenging, and it softened the old skin so it could be removed. She came out saying, “I feel like a new person.” We stayed in a spacious Ryad laid out over four floors, with an iron and ironing board in the basement, much like my own home. The beds were large, made by joining two three-quarter beds. Housekeeping came every day and kept the floors, garden, and swimming pool area tidy. The location felt like it was inside the medina. We walked to Jamaa al fna every day without going through a “Bab,” and never saw the old wall. The shift between the old and new city felt seamless, even though the place is described as being “at the gateway to the Medina” just outside the Medina wall.

We’d stay here again. The pool was great, and breakfast was very good. The dinner restaurant was a letdown for us, especially the lamb, which was very dead and dry, but there are lots of other places to eat nearby. The hotel sits between the new and old parts of town, and nearly everything we wanted to visit was within walking distance.

The breakfast was truly abysmal, with gloopy eggs that were barely edible every day and very few choices. The building with our four rooms was so dated and run down that I couldn’t believe they charged that much. In my double room, there were no doors separating the beds from the bathroom. The walls had cracked paint, with some areas badly chipped, and the towel rack kept falling off. We could also hear a family of pigeons waddling around on the roof while we tried to sleep. There were no blackout curtains either. I wouldn’t recommend staying here; I’d look elsewhere.

We were two young golfers and stayed for six nights. The hotel gave us an upgrade, and we enjoyed the pool, spa, and large gym. The food was quite good, and the location worked well: transfers to nearby golf courses were quick, and getting into the city was easy. The massages were expensive for what we got, so we weren’t happy with those. We also started out with half board, but at checkout they added the cost of two dinners. That was a bad miscalculation and didn’t feel transparent.

Breakfast was excellent, with lots to choose from and omelettes made to order. Everyone was friendly and polite, especially the breakfast waiters, who couldn’t do enough for us. We had a huge junior suite facing the big pool. The hotel is beautiful and well placed for exploring the souks, about a 10-minute walk away. I’d stay again.
