Hotel Arka

I only expected a bed and a shower, but didn’t even get that. The room and bathroom were huge, yet there was no shower, not even one over the bath. There’s no handrail by the bath, and the floors are shiny and slippery. I’d stayed with a tour group and hadn’t expected much. The neighbourhood felt very bad when we arrived, and someone tried to take my handbag between the bus and the front door. With no air conditioning in the room, I thought I could at least eat some fruit on the terrace at breakfast, but the only staff member was standing at the door and wouldn’t let me. Do not stay.

The road leading to the hotel gives the wrong impression, but the hotel itself was great. The staff were friendly, and the rooms were nice and clean. It’s right in the centre, within walking distance of all the sights. The rooftop bar has amazing views, so don’t miss a drink up there. Great experience overall, and I’d recommend it and come back if I get the chance.

The staff were kind, but unfortunately couldn’t sort things out. They repeatedly said they could find a decent solution if I emailed, but none of my emails got a reply. The AC in my room didn’t work, and the other room fell far short of what I expected. It had one bed and a transparent bathroom, despite my asking multiple times before booking not to be given that kind of room. The hotel is worn out and outdated, nowhere near deserving five stars. Avoid it.

Great location, a large room, and a good breakfast. Everything else was fine, though our shower flooded the whole area, and I’m not sure much can be done about it. There’s also a rooftop terrace with drinks.
