The staff communicated well, but the electricity wasn’t available all the time, and the internet got really bad when more people were around. Breakfast was ordinary, and it was much better last year.

The rooftop sky bar looks out over the mountains and has a lovely sense of nature. The rooms are roomy, neat, clean, and well ventilated, with air conditioning. Staff were lovely and very hospitable, and the buffet breakfast was delicious, with Chinese dishes and traditional foods like Shan noodles, Hintoke, and tofu. Reasonable price and perfect customer service. Five stars from me. 😍

The friendly, helpful staff made a good impression, and the cozy rooms have enough amenities, including a hot bath and heater. JR Hotel is just outside Kalaw town, a nice spot for a good night's rest. Breakfast is mostly Shan food, which works well for foreign travelers since it isn't oily or overly sweet. They also don’t charge foreign guests extra, which is a plus. Check out their sister JR Restaurant on the main road in town too, good food at fair prices.

The hotel itself looked reasonable, but I wouldn’t risk booking it. We booked online through Agoda, then arrived to hear from the receptionist that they don’t take Agoda bookings. We showed her the confirmation email and proof the money had been taken from our account. She just laughed and shrugged, with no understanding or offer to help. We were turned away in a really unprofessional way. Avoid!
