The place itself felt really cosy, but it was the staff who made my three-night stay so comfortable. The receptionist helped with all sorts of questions, including booking my next hostel in a less touristy place and finding a bus to get there. On my last morning I had to leave early, so they prepared breakfast before the usual time just for me. I absolutely recommend staying here.
The staff were kind, breakfast was good, and the price felt fair. The hotel was also one of the cleanest places we stayed during our whole trip in Myanmar. A great spot for a good night's rest before or after a trek.
Don't stay here. The rooms themselves aren't too bad, but the dishonesty ruined the experience. Agoda lists bathrooms in the economy rooms, yet those rooms don't actually have them, and staff then try to charge about $9.75 per night for an upgrade. They also claim to offer an elevator, car parking, free water in rooms, car and bike rentals, and airport transfers, but none of those are available. The service felt really lousy and dishonest. The owner, Richard, was also very rude when there was a problem. Avoid this place.
The lady let us in after waking up in the middle of the night, when our bus dropped us off four hours early. She was still in a great mood the next day. The rooms were great, and the front desk has free DVDs you can borrow to watch on the TVs. Breakfast is simple but nice, and there's a delicious Shan noodle place across the street. We had a wonderful stay.
The first couple of nights seemed fine for the low price. Breakfast was okay, the room looked alright, and the staff seemed friendly. The WiFi never worked, but mobile data is cheap in Myanmar, so we could live with that. Then we both got bites that definitely weren't mosquito bites. Searching the room, we found a bed bug and asked to move. Richard, the owner, told us to pack our things and leave them outside while he searched. He insisted bed bugs could only be in the bed and shouted, "There are no bed bugs in this room." I calmly tried to explain they can hide in tiny places elsewhere, but he kept interrupting and yelling for 10-15 minutes. To be fair, he did offer us another room, and we know having bed bugs isn't necessarily his fault. But after being shouted at and treated so disrespectfully, we couldn't imagine staying for the two nights we had left. We asked for a refund for those nights we'd already paid for, and he refused, saying he "doesn't lick everybody's ass." He never apologized for his behavior or for the room's condition. This was easily our worst hotel experience so far, with the poorest customer service we can imagine. Stay away!
